Inbound VS Outbound: And the Winner is….

SHARE

Inbound. The winner is always inbound. Any marketing company that is worth its weight will emphatically sing the praises of inbound marketing.

But what is the debate over inbound vs outbound? It comes down to the kind of relationship you want to have with your clients. The outbound marketing definition is as follows:

Outbound marketing, also known as “traditional marketing,” is a form of lead-to-client conversion in which the company initiates the conversation between itself and the lead.

Outbound marketing examples include television and radio commercials, print advertisements, email blasts and cold calls. And all of these examples have one thing in common: they just aren’t effective.

Our society is constantly exposed to outbound marketing techniques that are designed to be attention-grabbing. However, when everything we see is designed with outbound in mind, we all learn how to tune out these advertisements.

Enter inbound marketing. Inbound marketing techniques are designed to build a relationship with leads, getting to know who they are and what they want, in order to offer the kind of information they are interested in. Therefore, inbound marketing does not chase after leads begging them to become clients, but invites leads to become clients in a community that cares about what they want.

Inbound marketing is based on content creation that is geared to the needs, wants and interests of the client. Examples of inbound marketing:

  1. A pediatric dentist website that features reviews of the best kinds of toothpaste for children.
  2. How-to videos for designing your own kitchen for a home design/construction company.
  3. An orthopedic office that provides PDF literature on exercises to combat hand arthritis in the winter.

These three examples, though very different in content and strategy, have one thing in common: they are asking what their potential clients want to know, and are then providing that information in an easy-to-access format.

Inbound marketing has been proven time and again to be effective in drawing clients to businesses using search engine optimization and keywords that determine the interests of potential leads, and then providing content that is tailored to those interests.
